Devoted to the art of fine picture making, Whitney and Jan Prentice derive their inspiration from artists of the Renaissance through the early twentienth Century. It is in that time period that art in the Western tradition reached its pinnacle with its emphasis on drawing, value and color.

Painting and drawing from the live model (for Whit ney) and from living botanical specimens (for Jan) and the landscape, the artists studied and currently use traditional art methods and techniques in the creation of their work.

Whitney recieved an MFA from the Graduate School of Figurative Art at the New York Academy of Art in New York City. He also graduated from the Lyme Academy College of Art and studied at the Paier College of Art. He is currently a faculty member at Paier College of Art.

Nature painter Jan Prentice explores nature in its up-close beauty. Flowers, birds, fish, insects and the landscape all come under her eye as nature’s splendid variety is celebrated. Whether relying on centuries-old painting methods as in her gold-leaf botanicals or her contemporary works in color-pencil, Jan Prentice’s paintings reflect her traditional art training—solid composition and accurate Jan has shown her work widely including the Arnolfini Center of Contemporary Art in Bristol, England, Yale University (Peabody Museum), Bartlett Arboretum, Fairfield University, John Slade Eli House.

Jan is a founding member of Connecticut Natural Science Illustrators and an instructor at the Yale Peabody Museum. She earned her certificate in botanical illustration from the New York Botanical Garden. She studied art at the Lyme Academy College of Art, Paier College of Art, and the New York Academy of Art. She earned her certificate in botanical illustration from the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx, New York.

Whitney and Jan met in art school and married in 1994. They reside in Branford, CT.
