This was a late afternoon painting from just outside our tent at the north rim campground. The rim of the canyon is just beyond the trees. It was a nice change to not be chasing after another dramatic panorama and paint one of the many beautiful scenes that were all around but not so site specific. Trying to keep my palette limited for the sake of simplicity and color harmony, I found that I was able to paint this with just Viridian Green, Windsor Red and a little Cadmium Yellow Pale. Unfortunately, the photo of this painting exaggerates the surface texture and grain of the canvas somewhat to the detriment of the image.
